BACK HOME

Hi Everybody.
I just got back from the European and Canadian tour I just did with the amazing Joshua Redman and the great Reuben Rogers. It was so much fun playing with these guys every night.
The traveling was pretty tiresome and we took a million flights (like you do on your average European summer tour). Finn Air lost our luggage 5 days before the tour ended when we left Moscow and headed for Stockholm and we still haven't found our bags. 9 bags and an acoustic bass!!! Our friends at Finn Air have definitely outdone themselves this time.
Nevertheless the tour was great and I hope to play with them again soon. I will be very busy this fall with the Pat Metheny Trio and other interesting projects with Chick Corea, John Patitucci, Kenny Werner, etc so I won't be able to do any of Joshua's fall dates but I'm pretty sure we'll play again next year.
I will be playing with my quartet featuring Chris Potter, Miguel Zenon and Scott Colley again at the 55 bar on August 10th so come down if you're around.
Also, my solo CD is coming out finally at the end of August! I will keep you posted very shortly.

Peace,

Antonio.

ON TOUR WITH JOSHUA REDMAN

Hi Everybody.
I'm writing from Konsberg, Norway right now. We're at the beginning of Joshua Redman's Trio European Tour.
It's been a lot of fun so far. We started in Chicago and then did like 7 dates in Canada. Some crazy travel days and the usual missed connections here and there but everybody's spirits are high and into the music, which is the most important part when you are on the road.
We will be in Europe until July 22nd so check out the "schedule" section for info on the countries and cities we will be playing.
Swing by if you get a chance!

Peace,

Antonio.

To Korea again...

Hi everybody.
After a few months of peace and quiet in the Pat Metheny Trio world, we're back for a couple of dates in Asia.
We'll be playing in Seoul, Korea on June 2nd and 3rd.
The Korean audience has always been great every time we've been there so I'm very much looking forward playing for them again.

Will check back again soon.

Michael Brecker

It's really hard to start 2007 with the loss of one of the most amazing musicians and human beings I've ever met.
Michael had been fighting a very serious blood disorder for over a year and a half and unfortunately he lost his battle just a few days ago. I had actually asked him to be a guest in my solo record and he wrote me back recently saying that he wasn't feeling to well. I'm just still in shock.
I feel extremely privileged to have been able to share music and to have learned from Mike. Mostly I'm just happy to have met him and to be able to have considered him my friend.
The beautiful thing is that he left us one of the most amazing and brilliant musical legacies for all of us to admire and learn from so at least he will always live among us in that shape.
My best wishes go to Mike's family in this moment of sadness.

Thanks,

Antonio.

BACK TO EUROPE

Hi everybody. Thanks for logging in again.
I'm sitting at the airport in Mexico City. I'm on my way to Europe to do a tour with my good friend and awesome piano player Ed Simon, the incredible Greg Osby on sax and a bass player that resides in Austria (he put the tour together). His name is Juan Garcia Herros. He writes really nice music and the tour promises to be a lot of fun.

Going back in time a few days, I had an amazing experience playing with the great John Patitucci and Ed Simon here in Mexico City. We played at a beautiful place called "El Lunario" and it was sold out. My friend Carlos Mercado was the promoter for this gig and he's bringing high profile artists every month to that same venue. That in itself is pretty amazing because Jazz has always been pretty marginal in my country, but I'm very happy to see people coming out to check it out and supporting live Jazz.

I'll be back here in a week and a half and then I'll just stick around for the holidays with my family (happy to avoid the Noretheastern winter as much as possible!).

I also have to finish writing some music for my first album as a leader which I will be recording very soon. I'll keep you posted on that...

Thanks again for your support.

Have a great holiday season.

Best,

Antonio.

Quick Update

Hi everybody. Thanks for logging in.
I will be playing with my trio at the 55 Bar in NYC on Wednesday November 15th. Scott Colley and Donny McCaslin will be joining me so come by if you get a chance.
Right now I'm writing from Vilnius, Lithuania. Came to do one hit over here with Chris Potter and Scott Colley. Beautiful city so far. It's been rainy but you can tell it's a beautiful place with tons of history.
I've had a few really crazy days lately but it's been a lot of fun.
I played with the great Kenny Werner at the Blue Note in NY for a few days and that was amazing. During the day I was recording with my good friend and great guitar player Adam Rogers. Also in that band were Chris Potter, Scott Colley and Craig Taborn. Then I went to Richmond, VA to do some private lessons and a clinic at a music store. It went really well and the next day I left really early to go back to NY because I had to go straight to a recording session with my good friend Hans Glawishnig. Hans is a great bass player and we played a lot together in David Sanchez's band and Miguel Zenon's as well. In that session David Binney, Ben Monder and Luis Perdomo were also playing. We recorded some really nice tunes that Hans wrote and one of them was really really hard but I think it came out pretty good.
Then from the session I went straight to the airport to catch my flight to come to Lithuania so that was a long day but it paid off with the great music.

I'll try to write more in a few days.

Best,

Antonio.

BACK TO NY (a little sick with a cold unfortunately)

Hey everybody. Just checking in after a great run of Yamaha sponsored clinics in Mexico and Canada. I did 11 cities in 12 days in Mexico and 4 cities in Canada. It was a lot of fun and I actually more than half of the places I went to Mexico I had never been to so that was great. I had some great turnouts. Specially in Guadalajara where almost 1000 people came. It was very flattering!! Met some great people and they treated me like royalty so it was an amazing experience.
I also managed to go to Germany in between Mexico and Canada to do a few gigs with a guitar player friend of mine from Berklee named Ro Gebhardt. We did 5 gigs around Eastern Germany and a recording. Then I came back and did a great record date with my friend Alex Sipiagine. He's an amazing trumpet player. Also on the date were Chris Potter on saxes, Dave Kikoski on piano and rhodes and Scott Colley on bass. Then I went to Canada and now I'm here in NYC with nasty weather. (it seems to always be this way everytime I come back...)
In other news I'm doing my second clinic this year at Drummer's Collective in NYC on October 19th at 7pm. Come over if you're around the area.
I'm also having my first gig as a leader at the 55 bar in NYC on October 23rd. It's gonna be a trio with Miguel Zenon on sax and Scott Colley on bass so it's gonna be a lot of fun. Come by if you get a chance.
Thank you all for your messages and coments. I read them all!!
I'll try to check in again soon.
Best,

Antonio.

CLINIC TOUR IN MEXICO

Hey everybody. This is a new section on my site. I will try to update it as often as I can from now on.
I hope everybody knows that I read all your messages and questions and I'd love to reply to all of them but I've been so busy that I haven't around to it.
I'm sorry!! I hope to have a little bit of time in the future to get around to some of them at least.

Best,

Antonio.
